Screenwriter Ryan Murphy honored at amfAR gala

Murphy pledged to serve as “a lifelong ambassador” for the organization, which aims to find a cure for AIDS by 2020. Hotel actress reportedly paid $200,000 for a photo of Elizabeth Taylor holding up her middle fingers to Shirley MacLaine.

Actress Julia Roberts presented honoree Murphy with the night’s award, praising The Normal Heart director for his “unapologetic” work and energy.

To assist in upping the numbers, Jaime King modeled diamond earrings by Harry Winston, while Cuba Gooding Jr. rose from his seat to shout an impromptu “Show me the money” to a nearby bidder. Diller won with $60,000.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Emma Roberts, Lady Gaga and Lea Michele were just a few of the gorgeous gals who got gussied up to pay tribute to the fame screenwriter. She declared her love for Murphy before noting, “There are a lot of gentlemen here, but nobody’s offered me a glass of Champagne”.

Gaga performed “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)”, which she recorded for her 2014 album with Tony Bennett, “Cheek to Cheek”.

Lady Gaga didn’t just support the event she also performed for the A-list crowd too. She summed it up beautifully when she sat down at the piano to sing “Til It Happens to You”, an emotional ballad she penned with Diane Warren.

For her closing number, Gaga ditched her dress for a tuxedo jacket and not much else.

The singer had her hair coiffured into a beehive with a bun – for a put together look.
