Both Samsung and Apple are already working together with after the new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus being powered by A9 chips now supplied by the South Korean electronics giant.

Apple has further incorporated Samsung into its OLED supply chain to diversify its panel suppliers, causing LG Display to no longer be the sole provider of OLED displays for the Apple Watch.

Samsung is now supplying Apple with OLED displays for the Apple Watch and has also sent the company samples for upcoming iPhone models, reports ET News via DigiTimes. Since past year, there have been rumors of smartphone competitors Samsung and Apple entering into a partnership for displays.

As for OLED panels meant for future iPhones, the report claims that Samsung has provided Apple with samples which are now being put through various tests to see whether or not they’re up to the standards that the company wants to maintain with the iPhone.

LG Display was earlier the only manufacturer of P-OLED displays and a former supplier of glass panels for the Apple Watch, though Samsung has now also made a foray into the market.

The ETNews report, first spotted by Digitimes, states that Apple is expected to make a decision in November on whether to include the panels in the next iPhone.

The new OLED screen and the removal of Home button will undoubtedly have a pretty big impact on the Touch ID recognition feature in the recent iPhone devices. As always, this is strictly rumour for now but we may end up hearing something more concrete before the end of the year.
