French actress Pom Klementieff cast in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’

He has now cast his first newcomer, bringing in French actress Pom Klementieff for a role that supposedly required an Asian actress, and he’s also apparently suffered his first casting defeat. Are you happy to see the back of McConaughey?

Marvel reportedly struck out on Matthew McConaughey for a villain role in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”. Klementieff showed off her fighting prowess in Oldboy, which makes her a nice fit for the Guardians universe. She made her debut in Avengers #112 in 1973. She’s now living on Knowhere, and eventually became a full-fledged member of the Guardians team. Such a meeting could easily happen, especially if those rumors about Vision heading into space after Captain America: Civil War turn out to be legit.

According to Deadline, Klementieff will play Mantis, the half-Vietnamese, half-German daughter of Libra with ties to the Kree and Thanos.

The post also pointed out the female actresses who wanted to go to the casting call were also required to wear form-fitting clothes to the event.

Klementieff, who is best known for her role in Spike Lee’s Oldboy remake, was reported to have joined the cast in an unnamed “major role” earlier in the week. Those skills could certainly come in handy.

James Gunn will be returning to direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is about to begin production in Atlanta soon.
