Donald Trump says in favour of expanding H-1B visas
“I was not at all critical of him”.

If elected, Trump said he would take action against companies that replace American workers. “I was not at all”, Trump responded. “I never said that”.
It was the week she got exposed as a liar.
QUICK: Mr. Trump, let’s stay on this issue of immigration.
Originally introduced in 1979, the cap has since been informally relaxed but was still legally in place. His olive branch on legal immigration could help change the tenor of the discussion. “You have been very critical of Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, who has wanted to increase the number of these H1-Bs”, moderator Becky Quick said, referring to visas that permit USA employers to employ foreign workers for specific occupations for a limited amount of time.
“If you get caught abusing the [H-1B] program, you should never be able to use it again”, Rubio said, adding that businesses should have to advertise a potential H-1B job for 180 days and prove they’re not going to pay an H-1B worker more than they would an American worker for the job.
Trump was joined by Florida Senator Marco Rubio – despite their past difference on the issue in particular H-1B visas.
The H1-B visa program is capped at 85,000 annually for the entire US, so tech companies like Facebook and Microsoft have lobbied hard in recent years to expand the program.
If this quote from his new book is accurate, he’s semi-officially disavowing it. “I don’t want to stop legal immigration to this country”. And you know what? They can have it any way you want. That’s exactly the vibe Trump’s campaign has tapped into, on trade and economic competition as well as immigration. “We should put strict standards into place to make sure that they’re not being abused”, he said, proposing forfeiture of H1B access for companies found abusing the system.
Look, in addition to what Donald was saying is we also need to talk about the legal immigration system for permanent residents.
On the debate, Rubio said he felt good about his performance but said it was a “missed opportunity” because of the way the CNBC moderators handled the event.
As conservative pundit Byron York wrote back in August (in a column that turned out to be prescient), the written plan was “somewhat different from the one Trump has described in various TV appearances”.
Fellow Republican candidate Marco Rubio doesn’t highlight his immigration plan on his campaign website, but bills himself as a tech-savvy candidate in favor of trends like the sharing economy and a tax-free Internet. We did not receive an immediate response from the Trump camp.
If you haven’t considered this possibility lately, you should do it now: Donald Trump might be getting really, truly serious about running for the Republican nomination and the presidency.
Trump shifted the discussion to jobs in general. But they had walls with doors in common.
