Abigail Brody, who has worked at Apple for a decade before moving to eBay, is now the chief designer of Huawei’s interface and user experience, the Chinese handset maker said. The hardware design has been getting raves lately, specifically for the Nexus 6P, but when it comes to what’s inside and user interface, it leaves a lot to be desired.
It’s not as significant a hire as poaching someone like Jony Ive, of course, but the news signals Huawei’s desire to consolidate its new position in the smartphone world’s big leagues.
Recently, she served as vice president of global design at eBay and PayPal.
Brody’s LinkedIn profile says she was creative director and hiring manager at Apple for nearly 10 years to January 2011, working on the design of the first iPhone as well as the iCloud.

Huawei may be the newly “crowned” king of the Chinese smartphone market, but they do know that if they want to retain that title (with former number 1 Xiaomi nipping at their heels) and if they want to expand their market, their software needs to improve. Samsung still emerges on top of everybody with 23.8 percent market share and Apple sits in second place with 13.5 percent market share. The report also reveals that Huawei beat all smartphone manufacturers in terms of year-on-year growth, posting a massive 60.9 percent annual growth rate, according to The Verge. On the other hand, analysts regarded Huawei’s software and user interface to be subpar compared to its close contemporaries.
