Amazon has announced they will stop their Daily Deals program along with its Amazon Local app in the near future, according to a report from Geek Wire.

Amazon.com is pulling the plug on yet another product, announcing on its Web site today that it is closing down its Amazon Register credit card processing service.

Amazon didn’t give a reason for the move but daily deals sites have struggled financially in the past few years. Daily deals were the hot idea in e-commerce until just about everyone clambered onto the bandwagon and the buzz fueling the market eventually dried up.

Although Amazon declined to comment on why it’s putting the brakes on Amazon Local, it’s fair to assume that customers have been growing increasingly tired of daily deals.

Daily Deals and Amazon Local was created in 2011, according to Geek Wire, and was a rival to places like Groupon.

Any vouchers you have already bought won’t be affected by the change, and you’ll be able to purchase deals as you normally would until the shutdown date. Most recently, it’s been reported that Groupon has only made inroads with about 5 percent of the merchants that make up its target market. Amazon told TechCrunch that business will continue as usual for its “Deal of the Day, Gold Box Deals and Kindle Daily Deals”. These vouchers will be able to be redeemed after Amazon Local closes, as the website itself will remain online so users can continue to access their used and unused vouchers, Amazon explains.

The site and app will cease offering deals on December 18, and the daily email featuring deals ceased Friday, though deals that customers have purchased or buy through December 18 will be honored after that date.
