The Walking Dead officially renewed for a seventh season

It’s only been back on the airwaves for a mere two weeks, but already AMC has secured the immediate future of The Walking Dead after confirming plans to bring back the widely popular zombie series for season 7 in 2016. This is if The Walking Dead follows the same story line that the comic books did, which they have stayed pretty close to so far. There has not been any news just yet regarding whether or not it will remain 16 episodes, which is of great intrigue to us since AMC is ordering so many more episodes of “Fear the Walking Dead” next year.

Following a free premiere event with 13,500 screaming fans at Madison Square Garden, “The Walking Dead” has kicked off its sixth season with impressive social activity, drawing almost 20 million social engagements between premiere week and Episode 6.03 and ranking as the #1 most engaging drama.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC. Each season’s successive renewal have fallen near the Halloween holiday, with the exception of season six, which was announced prior to the start of season five.

In the meantime, speculations remain rampant over whether Glenn remains alive or not, which audiences will discover when “The Walking Dead” returns Sunday night on November 1 at 9pm ET. The October 25 episode drew an astonishing 18.2 million total viewers in Live+3 numbers, with 12 million in the key 18-49 demographic.

Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios, also said via press release that he has renewed Talking Dead, the highly-rated after-show hosted by Chris Hardwick. “I’ll be on a boat”, he said at the time. “And we definitely see that continue to happen this season, but she can’t fight it. It’s like, to grow into a mountain, you have to climb it, and that’s his strength, and we each have to continue to take risks”. He also thanked all their partners and associated parties like Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple and Chris Hardwick for all their honest efforts and contributions to make this unique show a handsome success.
