Alex Teixeira has revealed that Chelsea are interested in signing him from Shakhtar Donetsk in January and says that he would “welcome” the challenge of playing in the Premier League.

Teixeira has scored 16 goals in 11 matches in the Ukrainian Championship – which adds to more goals than every Premier League team in London combined.

Chelsea’s interest in the uncapped Brazilian has been known since Mourinho watched him in Ukraine’s 1-0 home defeat against Spain during the last worldwide break.

Teixeira’s goal tally has been aided by the departures of Douglas Costa to Bayern Munich and Luiz Adriano to AC Milan, as Shakhtar manager Mircea Lucescu has moved the Brazilian further up the pitch. I think that will facilitate a transfer, it will be good for the club.

“The president told me that they only didn’t sell me before because of these other two negotiations [Douglas and Luiz]”. It is important to compete in a league like the Premier League.
