Write a novel in 30 days at the Plainfield Public Library

All four Pope County Libraries will provide two things every writer wants: space and quiet to write their story. Anyone who has ever thought “I wonder if I have a novel in me?’ Anyone who has a bucket list with the item ‘write novel” laying in the bottom of a drawer. “So I said, we should do something with this (at the library)”.

“NaNoWriMo is an incredible way for libraries to participate in the creation of literature, not just the consumption of it”, she said. Locals who are fearless enough to take up the task will be looking at a roughly 1,600-word daily quota from november 1 through 30. North Mississippi’s municipal liaison for the program, associate professor and reference librarian Alex Watson, will host a kickoff write-in this Sunday night in library classroom 106-D at 7 p.m. Hall said participants are welcome to stop by for 30 minutes or stay the entire two hours.

Wen has participated in NaNoWriMo seven times. In addition to communicating with the hashtag #nanowrimo2015, writers can join local groups where they meet up and encourage each other. On page 8, he discusses writing as an amateur rather than a professional and that the amateur writer is one who “may be as competent as a professional but is motivated by a love or passion for the activity”.

Earlier this year, NorthernLife.ca wrote about a 17-year-old Lockerby Composite School graduate – who goes by the pen name of Electra Bowes – who published her first novel, Bitter Silence, thanks to NaNoWriMo.

Upon online registration, the national program offers weekly motivation emails, “pep talks” with established authors and online webinars. Here is your 2015 NaNoWriMo survival guide.

Do you want an excuse to ignore your housework for a month and do nothing but write?

The objective of NaNoWriMo is for participants to have camaraderie with other writers to produce a quantity of 50,000 words by the end of November.

She said her eventual goal is to complete one of the novels she’s started over the years and to have it published. Library staff will be on hand to help authors get signed up and answer questions about NaNoWriMo. “Everyone has a story that needs to come to life, so the shelves of the NaNoWriMo library stretch endlessly”.

Hall said that when she transitioned to the Northbrook Library from New Lenox last year, she knew the community would be interested in the program, and she was eager to get Northbrook involved this year. You couldn’t eat an elephant in one sitting. “This is a really creative, artistic community, and it seems like this would be something that would be really popular”.
