Mets confident of World Series fightback despite defeats

They last won the World Series in 1986, when they came back from 2-0 down.

Cueto’s first four starts for Kansas City went well, but after that he fell apart, with a 6.49 E.R.A.in nine starts.

Try as they may, the New York Mets can’t kill them. The Mets now will have Game 3 at home and the team needs to win one of the next two games to force the Royals to play another at Citi Field.

CITY, Mo-The Kansas City Royals have left Kauffman Stadium heading to New York, where they have a commanding two games to none lead in the World Series.

The Royals didn’t appreciate Noah Syndergaard buzzing Alcides Escobar’s head and knocking him down with the first pitch of Game 3 in the World Series on Friday night.

Mets’ ace Jacob deGrom had a very rough outing, as the Royals were able to piece together a good chunk of their hits in the fifth inning to take a lead against one of the best pitchers in baseball.

The pitcher and his family flew to the Dominican Republic for the funeral, but Volquez told Royals Manager Ned Yost that he would see the team in New York.

“The fans are electric”, he said about the postseason. “Last year we took a 2-1 lead in San Francisco and were feeling pretty good about ourselves”. “Hopefully we win (the next) three there”. The wiry but powerful 24-year-old is set for already the ninth postseason start of his young career.

If Cueto can put together one more solid World Series performance, he might be fielding calls from every team in the Majors come free agency. The Royals won each. “They’re strong and they’re tough”, said Collins about the inspirational affect they have. “I know I’m looking forward to it”, he said. “We find ways to just keep putting the ball in play until you find holes”.

Yost has penciled in an identical lineup for each of the Royals’ 13 playoff games.

“I think we’d really like to win that ballgame”, Murphy said. “And we’ve done it. We certainly have done it. We’ve got to do it again”. He surrendered eight runs that night while becoming the first pitcher in postseason history to allow 11 baserunners and last two or fewer innings. That includes an ill-considered bunt attempt that failed to pan out in the eighth inning of Kansas City’s 5-4, 14-inning victory in the Series opener.

Game 7 (if necessary): New York at Kansas City.

The Royals’ lead in the Series was cut to 2-1. They lost Game 3 of the American League Championship Series in Toronto, allowing the Blue Jays to creep back into the series.

It’s up to them, starting Friday.

“My brother and I probably took a hundred photos just because we were in awe of being there”, Esfeld said. “We’ve got to do a better job of using the field to hit”.

Final: Johnny Cueto throws two-hitter as Royals batter Mets, 7-1, for 2-0
