From October 23 up to 29, there were another five reported dengue fever cases.
State Epidemiologist Sarah Park, MD, said dengue fever isn’t endemic to Hawaii, but the mosquito that can spread the disease is present in the state.
Local environmental health assessments have not turned up significant mosquito activity in the affected area, said Hawaii District health officer Aaron Ueno.
A spokesman from CHP stated, “As the dengue activity in southern Taiwan remains high, the public are reminded to take anti-mosquito measures when travelling to the area, and to Southeast Asian countries, in order to prevent DF”.
To learn about dengue fever, visit the DOH website. “The island, even though it’s called the Big Island, is not very big”. My investigation is still ongoing, and we’re still looking at where people went and what they have in commonalities.
The Oregon Health Authority’s (OHA’s) Public Health Division and the Crook County Public Health Department yesterday confirmed a case of bubonic plague in a teenage Crook County girl, the country’s 16th plague case this year, according to an OHA news release.
“We’re always on the lookout for an incident like this because dengue doesn’t happen here”, she said. Fever, joint or muscle pains, headache or pain behind the eyes, and a rash are among the general symptoms of individuals infected.
Clinicians throughout the Big Island were issued a medical advisory Thursday morning urging the report of suspected dengue fever cases.

Health official say the dengue virus is most often transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito. “Use mosquito repellents containing 20-30 percent DEET and wear long sleeves and trousers in areas where mosquito-borne disease is a concern”.
