Qualcomm refutes Snapdragon 820 overheating rumors
A couple of days ago, there were rumors that Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 820 chipset has overheating issues just like its predecessor SD810, and Samsung – which is manufacturing the SoC – is working to fix to the problem.

There have been reports that Samsung will be launching its next flagship, the Galaxy S7, much earlier than expected. Rumors of the Snapdragon 820 overheating follow the firestorm of criticism Qualcomm received over the overheating issues plaguing the Snapdragon 810. The same problem was a focal point of concern for the Snapdragon 810, which suffered from overheating concerns that eventually led the company to miss out on chip orders from major vendors, as its bottom line stuttered.
Many OEMs have put their trust into Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 820 chipset, which is supposed to be included inside (probably) more than 75% of the flagship smartphones that will be launched next year.
Qualcomm clarified the chip has no such issues and the SoC meets design specifications, although it will be refined further. Firstly, these rumors originated from South Korea, where there are many pro-Samsung industry commentators. In a statement sent to Gadgets 360 (also posted on the company’s Weibo site), Qualcomm said, “The rumors circulating in the media regarding Snapdragon 820 performance are false”.
According to this rumor which was picked up by SamMobile, the Snapdragon 820, which is going to be manufactured by Samsung using the 14nm FinFET process, has been overheating. The semi-conductor giant had previously guaranteed enhanced processing capabilities for the accused 820 chipset, and has one again moved to deny poor performance accusations labeled against it. It is meeting all of our specifications.

Sony also confirmed the problem in its recent Xperia Z3+. The LG G Flex was the first handset to incorporate the processor. Moreover, the Snapdragon 820 will boast a Hexagon 680 DSP, improved LTE/Wi Fi connectivity, 4K video support at 60 fps, and will support dual-channel LPDR4 memory support with speeds reaching 1866 MHz. Qualcomm says the report, which has since been pulled, is a bunch of baloney. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, the Snapdragon 820 is not yet used in production handsets and is still undergoing the extended testing period that all chipsets go through before being released into the wild.
