‘Iron man’ Sardar Patel should have been nation’s first PM: Naidu
The slogan this time is: “Sardar Patel Ka Sapna, Ek Jut Ho Bharat Apna”. Sardar Patel was an Iron Man of India. “Now we should put in our best to maintain it”, he said. But, Sardar Patel had a different vision of Independent India.

“History has not done justice to memory of Sardar Patel for whatever reason”. This day is celebrated in remembrance of the first woman prime minister of India, Indira Gandhi, and the nation’s first home minister Sardar Vallabbhai Patel.
“But what happened happened”, Naidu added.
“Our strength is a nation bound together by unity and which can sacrifice everything for unity and this is the message of Sardar sahab”, he said, recalling that Patel’s life was dedicated to national unity. “We will not allow such a diabolical design to succeed…It will shake country’s foundations…We are ready to fight the battle”, Gandhi said. “She protected the poor and died for India”, Rahul Gandhi tweeted. Modi spent a large part of his speech praising the ways in which Patel, India’s first deputy prime minister, had promoted unity in the country.
Meanwhile, Youth Congress workers protested outside the Doordarshan office here against “inadequate coverage” of the death anniversary of Indira Gandhi. Congress leader Anand Sharma asserted that it had become clear now that the BJP’s agenda was to spread communal tension for electoral benefits.
“They do not have heroes and icons and therefore they are borrowing them and borrowing them foolishly… We must remember their great deeds, learn from them and march forward with the same resolution that they showed”, he said.
The Prime Minister will first offer floral tributes at Sardar Patel statue on Parliament Street at 7.30 am, a PMO statement said. I will send it to him…. “Nehru was one of the tallest leaders in the world”.

The Prime Minister also administered a pledge to the thousands of people, which included school and college students, personnel of paramilitary forces, and people residing in and around here, gathered at the Rajpath. He said under this scheme, two states would undertake a unique partnership for a period of one year.
