With this addition, JetBlue now offers five weekly flights to Cuba per week, including those from Tampa and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood.

The airline confirmed its weekly service from New York to Havana each Friday.

“This is something we’re gonna talk about for years and years and years; this is an opportunity for American people to go to Cuba“, said a smiling Infante, holding his boarding pass in front of him.

On Wednesday, the two governments announced that they will reopen their respective embassies on July 20.

Travelers can make arrangements for the flight service, which operates on Fridays, directly with Cuba Travel Services, a leading authorized carrier service provider. Airlines such as JetBlue and American have teamed up with charter companies to sell seats. The New York-based airline has partnered with Cuba Travel Services, Xael Charters, and ABC Charters on those flights.

The plane was composed of only 60 passengers though.

“I understand their culture”, she says.

He said, “I’m making history”.

Many New Yorkers of Cuban origin were on the first flight this Friday while celebrating this historic moment for which they’ve been waiting a long time.

“We don’t have to be imprisoned by the past”, he said in remarks that morning.

JetBlue employees are not allowed to explore Cuba, but shortly are expected to be able to look around the island. And that’s fine by mechanic Albert Coca, who was born in Cuba but left for the United States when he was four years old. It was the first time his mother, Amylis Bons, 32, of Elizabeth, NJ, was traveling back to Cuba since leaving in 2007.
