St. Louis Blues sign Tarasenko to 8-year, $60M deal

The St. Louis Blues have signed forward Vladimir Tarasenko to an eight-year contract worth $60 million.

If the Blues intend to keep defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk then they’ll also need to account for the likelihood that he’ll ask for a big raise too once his current four-year, $17 million deal expires in the summer of 2017.

Victor Tarasenko uses nifty stick work to score his seventh of the season. He accumulated 135 points in 179 career games wiht an impressive 40+/-.

Tarasenko is coming off a breakout campaign in which he racked up 37 goals – numerous breathtaking variety – and 73 points in 77 games for the Blues, to go along with a plus-27 rating. Unlike the Blues playing style during the playoffs, Tarasenko didn’t alter his production. He also added six goals and one assist in seven playoff games.

Vladimir Tarasenko received a huge contract from the St. Louis Blues.

The 6-foot, 223-pound forward from Yaroslavl, Russia, played in his first NHL All-Star Game in January and was the league’s Second Star for the month of November.

– He was the youngest Blues player to record a 30-goal season since Brendan Shanahan, who had 33 in the 1991-92 season during which he turned 23.
