The company explains it went to great lengths to ensure the GT remains the fastest production auto on the planet.

The Hennessey Venom GT is now known as one of the world’s most powerful vehicles; its 7-litre V8 is fitted with a pair of turbochargers and can generate up to 1,244 horsepower.

In a statement, John Hennessey said “Being the fastest matters”. This was done, in part, by upping the boost pressure of the twin turbos from 19 psi to 26 psi. Estimates for the all-important quarter mile put the updated Venom GT at just 9.4 seconds at 167 miles per hour (268 km/h), with an envisioned maximum speed of more than 280 miles per hour (450 km/h). Despite the lack of all-wheel drive or a dual-clutch gearbox, Hennessey claims that the 2016 Venom will still rocket to 96 km/h (60 mph) in a mere 2.4 seconds, 160 km/h in 4.4 seconds and 320 km/h in 12.8 seconds. “We plan to demonstrate our improved power and performance both in terms of straight line acceleration as well as road course handling and lap time performance”.

Given the number of extreme builds that strut their way through SEMA every year, we can’t guarantee that Hennessey will have the most horsepower on show, but it’ll definitely have one of the must-see exhibits.
