Randy Lerner meets Remi Garde, deal expected next week

Former Arsenal and Lyon defensive midfielder Remi Garde is, according to the Sun, on the verge of being announced as the new manager of Aston Villa.

The Premier League’s bottom club, who face Tottenham Hotspur on Monday, sacked Tim Sherwood last week after only eight months in charge at Villa Park.

The make up of Garde’s backroom staff at Villa was a serious point of contention, and was in fact something which many believed may have caused any deal to be off.

MacDonald expects Garde to be Villa’s next manager.

Gerard Houllier has backed Remi Garde to be a big success at Aston Villa ahead of the Frenchman’s expected appointment on Monday.

It’s with that background that the 49-year-old will attach massive importance to who will wear the armband for what has now become a 28-game battle for survival. “I think they met Remi Garde with the chairman and they made their opinion”.

“When I was in Spain, Argentina and France, we would say it was different, more stable in England because there were a lot of examples like Arsene Wenger or Sir Alex Ferguson”. The feeling still remains though that these players actually might not be good enough.

Garde has been without a job since last year’s departure from Ligue 1 side Lyon.

Ayew is set to play a key role for Villa under the new coach who know him well from his days in the French top-flight with Marseille.

“He speaks the English language and will get his ideas and philosophy across”. Jack Grealish is the standout young talent whom Garde will be asked to polish, but summer recruit Adama Traore, a Barcelona youth product, is another who Garde will hope to inspire. As the head of the Lyon academy, and then first-team coach, Garde did a few remarkable work with the young players.
