The Street Fighter 5 beta will begin on July 23 at 6PM PT and will last for 5 days, ending on July 28. According to details shared by Capcom, the primary goal of Street Fighter V beta is to test the online net code and the feedback of players on it will help development team improve the net code in the final build. Four characters will be available immediately, and Birdie and Cammy will roll in on July 25th. The reason for the short delay for Birdie and Cammy is to test out Capcom’s new content delivery system.

The beta will feature three stages. Once you’re paired up with a challenger, you’ll square off in the Bustling Side Side Street (China), Terminal Station (London), or the Forgotten Waterfall.

Plenty of other fixes have also been added by the new update, such as solutions for audio balancing issues or a better performing save game functionality, not to mention a change for the actual start screen, which no longer tells players to press the Start button, which isn’t even on the PS4’s DualShock 4 controller. In between battles, players will be able to train in the Grid.

Once they select their character, players will be placed into training mode while an opponent is found. Upon finding an opponent, players will be transported back to the versus screen and begin their match shortly thereafter. While the players wait for their match they will train in the Grid. Unfortunately, no type of local versus mode will be available for the beta, as it’s meant to test the game’s online fighting. Beta redemption keys will be emailed from the retailer starting on July 20.

Users who pre-order digitally through PSN will not need to redeem a Beta key, but will need to manually download the Street Fighter V Beta client from the PSN store starting on 7/20 (Pacific time).

In Asia and Japan, users need to download the “Street Fighter V Closed Beta Test Ticket” from PSN this week for a chance to play the beta.
