Marlins expected to announce hiring of Mattingly on Monday
The announcement of Mattingly’s hiring won’t come until after the World Series, and any delay will allow the Marlins to hold off until they can make a bigger splash in Miami with the news.

“I’m hoping I’m not sweating underneath, he said with a smile”.
Mattingly becomes the 10th manager for the Marlins – and seventh since 2010 – during Jeffrey Loria’s ownership of the franchise.
Last week rumors and reports indicated the Miami Marlins hired Don Mattingly to be their next manager.
“I signed a four-year deal”, he said at a news conference Monday.
All I can say is good luck. “We’ve done too many”. Team President David Samson said he proposed firing Jennings, and Loria agreed.
Mattingly was a six-time All-Star and a. 307 hitter with the New York Yankees from 1982 to 1995.
When the interim manager move was first made, I thought it was a cost-saving temporary maneuver for the Fish, who could pay Jennings his salary as a front office executive without strong expectations to have him return to that role.
Mattingly, who interviewed for the job on Monday, will face a big adjustment regarding resources. The Dodgers ended the season with a payroll of $289.6 million, compared to just $64.9 million for the Marlins.
And Loria’s notorious for his payroll purges.
Said Mattingly: “That was probably my biggest fear”.
Mattingly apparently received sufficient assurances on that front, and said the small budget doesn’t bother him. The change failed to spark a turnaround, and the Marlins finished 71-91. Even with a modest payroll, they might be able to keep their nucleus together for another couple of years. They’ve got an abundance of it with the likes of Giancarlo Stanton, Jose Fernandez, Justin Bour, Dee Gordon, Adeiny Hechevarria and Christian Yelich. He won 55.1 percent of his regular season games in five years in Los Angeles (446-363) but was 8-11 in postseason. The Dodgers have not reached the World Series since winning the title in 1988, and lost to the New York Mets this year in the NL Division Series. “All the steps it takes to get there, that starts with the basics of hard work, preparation, all the things that we have to build and continue to build. Obviously, the building process has started with the core that’s here, now we have to continue to teach and continue to develop”. “I don’t plan on coming here and losing”.

NOTES: Starting pitching will be at the top of the Marlins’ shopping list this offseason.
