Meanwhile, the Supreme Court is also due to hear a bunch of PILs related to the Vyapam scam on Thursday (July 9), including one seeking removal of Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav.

The party insisted that the CBI probe should be monitored by the Supreme Court.

Telling about his decision of proposing HC to initiate a CBI probe, Chouhan said, “I was up all night and have thought about it. I have decided that CBI should enquire the issue”.

Chouhan, who has been under opposition attack over the rising death toll, said people wanted to know the truth and it had become imperative that the case be probed by CBI now to put to rest all doubts. “We still remain firm on our demand for a Supreme Court-monitored probe”, Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia told the media here.

Udaipur: In remarks which could trigger controversy, Law Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today termed the Vyapam scam as a “silly issue” on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi need not comment.

On Congress’ allegation about his involvement, he said all charges the opposition party had levelled against him in the case so far had been found to be wrong.

In the Vyapam scam, also known as the MPPEB scam, bribes were allegedly taken by several senior politicians, bureaucrats and middlemen for allowing impostors to write recruitment examinations for appointments to government posts.

Before he began to address, Kumar with other Congress leaders observed two-minute silence to mourn the death of journalist Akshay Singh who was covering the scam.

And on Monday, a woman police trainee recruited through Vyapam was found dead in Sagar district.

Constable Ramakant Sharma committed suicide by hanging himself at his official residence in Orchcha police station.
