Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka pleads not guilty in ’83 death of girlfriend

Authorities found the body of Snuka’s girlfriend, 23-year-old Nancy Argentino, of New York, in May 1983 after they were called to a Whitehall Township hotel room she was sharing with the wrestling star. The judge eventually sided with the prosecution. In court today, Snuka told the judge that he didn’t know what day it was, where he was, and that he couldn’t read or write in English.

The defence lawyer also indicated that Snuka might not be fit to stand trial, given that he allegedly suffers from early onset dementia and stomach cancer.

“He has his good days and his bad days”, Kirwan said in court. “This is a good day”.

Kirwan argued all the “dangerous” information in relation to his client was already released to the media when prosecutors announced the charges against Snuka, “after they flooded the media with all their information, all the best parts of their case…” Snuka said he was homeschooled in the Fiji Islands.

Banach asked Snuka a list of questions normally asked to confirm a defendant is competent for a court hearing.

During the hearing, the Superfly’s attorney Robert Kirwan II maintained that Nancy Argentino’s 1983 death was an “unfortunate accident”.

Former professional wrestler Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka pleaded not guilty today to murdering his girlfriend more than 30 years ago, according to AP News.

Snuka had given conflicting accounts of what happened the night of Argentino’s death, including saying she fell and hit her head on the concrete, according to prosecutors. Martin reopened the case after a newly revealed autopsy report appeared in the Morning Call that led to grand jury charges.
