Spectre Smashes British Box Office Records

Now, nobody said that a Bond movie ever had to be realistic, but Spectre takes things way too far in the logical lapse department – rendering it guiltier than its predecessor, even.

Mendes was previously married to Kate Winslet, and dated Rachel Weisz, now the wife of Bond himself, Daniel Craig.

This evening it has been confirmed that SPECTRE, the 24th movie in the James Bond franchise has opened with a record breaking week in the U.K, besting any other opening in United Kingdom history, but more importantly, it has achieved a bigger opening than Skyfall (and any of the Harry Potter movies for that matter). The film also set a new record in Denmark for the biggest three-day opening of all time, as it took in 28.1 million krone ($4.21 million), also surpassing Skyfall. And the thriller could haul in as much as million over its American debut weekend.

“We set the record for smashing up cars on Spectre”, Gary Powell, the film’s chief stunt coordinator, told the Mail on Sunday.

We all knew Spectre was going to open big at the box office.

The picture also established a new Imax record, nabbing the highest per-location average in company history with $105,000 in 47 theaters. No doubt the earnings will be welcomed by the studio since Spectre has a 200 million pounds budget.

“What an incredible thrill it is for us at MGM to see how James Bond continues to deliver such excitement to his fans”.

A cryptic message from the past sends James Bond on a rogue mission to Mexico City and eventually Rome, where he meets Lucia Sciarra (Monica Bellucci), the handsome and forbidden widow of an infamous criminal.

Spectre is expected to make a similar earning in the US.

Although the decision to cast Daniel was met with criticism, Casino Royale, released in November 2006, became the highest grossing film of the franchise, until now.

The Times said Sam Mendes’ film was “achingly cool”, while The Independent said it was “every bit the equal of its own forerunner”, 2012 release Skyfall.
