Bernie Sanders spends over $2 Million on first TV Ad

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has released his first campaign ad, a one-minute spot to begin airing Tuesday in the early voting states of New Hampshire and Iowa. It starts by telling viewers he’s the “son of a Polish immigrant, who grew up in a Brooklyn tenement”.

“Bernie Sanders. Husband. Father. Grandfather. An honest leader – building a movement with you, to give us a future to believe in”, says a female narrator.

Sanders himself speaks toward the end of the ad.

An August Gallup poll showed only a third of black voters were familiar with him, compared to 92 percent for Hillary Clinton, 80 percent of whom had a favorable opinion of her.

The 60-second spot also highlights Mr. Sanders’ long and consistent record as a champion of left-wing causes and the liberal agenda propelling his run.

“Now he’s taking on Wall Street and a corrupt political system”, the narrator continues. That’s speaking to a group of voters Sanders has struggled to connect with.

In addition to opposing the Iraq war and supporting veterans, Sanders is now seeking legislation on climate change, “living wages”, equal pay, and “tuition-free public colleges”, the ad says.

After a solid debate performance and official exit of Vice President Joe Biden from White House consideration, Clinton now leads in Iowa and cut into Sanders’ advantage in New Hampshire.

Bernie Sanders launched his first TV ad a biographical story that touts Sanders as a champion for America’s “working families.”
