Authorities say no arrests have been made.

“They’ve lived here for 40 years, just like us, and this is the first time something like this has happened right here on Damen”, Morris said.

An unknown number of people were gathered in the alley when an altercation started and resulted in gunfire, said Dean Andrews, Chicago police chief of detectives. “But what kind of creature are you, that you could shoot an 8-year-old multiple times?” “Who are you? What are you?” said Father Michael Pfleger.

“This child should be in classroom tomorrow, the perpetrators who discharged this weapon shouldn’t have no bed to sleep in tonight”, said community activist Andrew Holmes.

“He was going to make me real proud of him”.

The boy’s mother, Karla Lee, said her son had dreams of playing in the National Basketball Association. He is believed to have been headed to a nearby park.
