Lieutenant Joseph Gliniewicz was found shot to death more than two months ago. We will have no comment on that or other reports until the news conference at 10 a.m. tomorrow. He radioed dispatchers before his death, saying he was checking on three suspicious suspects near a neighborhood.

A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Round Lake Beach Civic Center, 2007 N. Civic Center Way, Round Lake Beach, said Lake County Sheriff’s Detective Chris Covelli in a news release.

Investigators are expected to reveal a significant development in the investigation into a veteran Fox Lake police officer’s September shooting, which prompted a massive manhunt in northern Illinois and left a community stunned.

Gliniewicz had been an officer for more than 30 years and was nearing retirement at the time of his death. The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force said the last moments of the officer’s life appear to have involved a physical struggle. A question-and-answer portion will follow the “significant new information”. One hint came when Lake County Coroner Dr. Thomas Rudd announced that Gliniewicz was killed by a “single devastating” shot to his chest. “Whenever evidence, physical evidence or evidence we obtain through the investigation or interviews we conduct with individuals that don’t result in definitives, we have to take everything into account”. Communication was lost and officers responding to assist Gliniewicz discovered his body in a marshy area.
