San Diego’s Keenan Allen out for the season
With 67 catches, Allen was tied for the second-most receptions in National Football League history through the first eight games.

Allen has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dismal season for the Chargers, and they could have used him in the second half of Sunday’s 29-26 loss. It now sounds like Allen won’t return this season. Oliver’s injury is considered minor but his status for San Diego’s next game, against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football in Week 9.
Wide receiver Keenan Allen catches a touchdown pass in front of Kendrick Lewis and Jimmy Smith of the Baltimore Ravens on November 1, 2015 in Baltimore. Allen battled a hip injury earlier in the year but this looks different and more substantial.
On Monday, Chargers coach Mike McCoy said that wide receiver Keenan Allen would be out for an indefinite period of time due to a kidney injury. He did not return after that play. ESPN said sources indicated that recovery was likely after about six weeks, but with the Chargers 2-6 and out of running in the AFC West, the club opted to shut him down for the season. It will now kick off in San Diego at 1:05 p.m. PST, a sign, no doubt, of the Chargers’ lagging interest as a prime-time team.
