Donald Trump Forecasts “Fantastic” ‘SNL’ With Him As Host, Welcomes Protests

On Monday, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, of which Sanchez is a member, approved a “Statement of Opposition” calling on SNL to disinvite Trump.

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speaks at a news conference before a public signing for his new book ‘Crippled America: How to Make America Great Again, ‘ at the Trump Tower Atrium on November 3, 2015 in New York City. NBC will be looking for a new guest host for “Saturday Night Live” this weekend, if the Congressional Hispanic Caucus has its way.

Other groups have expressed concern about Trump’s on-air turn as host of the show, but NBC has not given any indication it is having second thoughts.

The caucus noted Monday it had received assurances in the past from NBCUniversal and parent Comcast that they are committed to Latinos, which is incompatible with “Mr. Trump’s racist remarks and his continued rhetoric demonizing Latinos and immigrants”.

Saturday’s protest will call out Trump’s scapegoating of immigrants for the declining social and economic conditions facing the US working class, and his description of Mexicans in particular as “rapists” and “criminals”.

Individual lawmakers like Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Illinois, had already issued the same call as well as the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda and the California Latino Legislative Caucus. “So why can’t NBC hold their own TV shows responsible to keep an unapologetic racist from hosting a comedy show?”

“Donald Trump has said a few pretty very bad things about women individually and collectively”. Other parties have made clear a desire to see “Saturday Night Live” drop Trump as a host, the latest example of how the controversy he has sparked over the course of his campaign can be a double-edged sword for TV networks that want to cover him.

“We are appalled that you would enable Trump’s hateful speech for nothing (more) than a ratings ploy and ask that you rescind the SNL invitation”, the group wrote last month.

“I think they should demonstrate”, Trump says.

“Oh, good, it will get even higher ratings”, he said.

Trump has proved a ratings boon for television networks, including helping to bring record-breaking viewers to the first three Republican debates.
