Coming back from last week’s Simmons solo hour “4,722 Hours”, it seemed only natural that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. would return to its delicate balancing act of serving so many spread-out characters, something of a necessary evil, though “Among Us Hide…” didn’t suffer many glaring tiresome spots. May is told he’s alive.
May reveals that she knows they’re looking for Werner von Strucker (Spencer Clark). Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s third season is so far the strongest of its run and I hope the momentum continues. He says he barely made it to the door and the blast must have thrown him away. Coulson accuses her of staging a break-in, she accuses him of staging the break-in. In an act of selfishness, Hunter ignores Ward’s warning to stand down, and it looked as if Andrew was blown to smithereens. Coulson isn’t so sure she is back for good, but he puts her on the case anyway.
Ward is setting up a new spot. Rosalind admits that she might actually want Coulson to like her.
Mind you, it’s still not entirely clear what’s going on, or how much control/knowledge Andrew has over his monstrous alter-ego, who himself had no such duality in the source material. May has admired Bobbi since her recruit days, and doesn’t want to see Bobbi waste her potential like May wasted hers sitting inside a cubicle after Bahrain.
The Werner meets with a friend of his dad’s, Gideon Malick. He’s scared and says Ward is a monster.
But it turns out Rosalind is buttering Coulson up and delaying him from seeing the ATCU facility.
Hunter is bored, trying to find something to do. Mack interrupts and calls Daisy into another room. Ming-Na Wen and Adrienne Palicki are charismatic actors that keep Drew Z. Greenberg’s script engaging even as it hits traditional story beats, and while the stakes are high, they still bring a sense of fun to the table, particularly during the bank scenes. As they figure out what to do, Hunter leaves the van, knocks him out, and brings him into the van. It turns out to be negative. Their mission: go undercover to infiltrate a Cayman Island’s bank and get intel on Von Strucker. Fitz warns them that they triggered an alarm and they are locked inside. Telling Bobbi to simply ignore the advice from medical professionals about going into the field was reckless and felt a bit off to me. He fears Ward and needs Gideon’s assistance. When he mentions Strucker being a pawn and he shouldn’t have been used, Ward points out he doesn’t even know what his plan is. Gideo offers Ward Strucker in return that Ward remembers he chose a side when he comes calling. How do YOU think he plays into the show’s plot? It’s a lab and they use a drone that Daisy took from Fitz to view inside.
Coulson wasn’t idle this episode either as he got his spy on with Rosalind Price. Why isn’t Coulson freaking out? The Inhumans are placed in a stasis gel.
“Somebody just found out the other day that they were something that they had no idea they were”. That’s why there was an expensive signed baseball bat. Rosalind’s husband died of cancer. We’re so honored to be able to have him in the show.
Kebo is torturing Von Strucker. Bobbi and May bust in. It’s a huge violation of civil liberties, but Rosalind really believes that what she is doing is right, and Constance Zimmer’s performance convincingly sells the character’s noble intentions. May tries getting information from Strucker. He tells her he tried to do what Ward wanted, they tried killing him.
– Speaking of the comics, I don’t know a ton about Lash, but did he have a human form? We see how things really went down in the store.
Ward oversees his operation and complains to Kebo that he let an S.H.I.E.L.D. assassin in. Lash then killed everyone else.
Next week, it looks like at least May confronts Andrew about his Inhuman-ness. She asks where to find Ward, but Strucker is traumatized.
End: Daisy is talking to Lincoln on the phone. He says he’ll reach out soon. She said there’s nothing but she’ll let him know if he finds out anything.
This week’s Agents of SHIELD gets Bobbi and May back into action, pumped and ready to kick a few ass. I think those of us who have lost someone to a disease understand her motives. So, Garner ain’t dead – so much for the ballsy. All in all it was handled quite well, if only they had attributed more time to that particular plot.
It was great seeing Bobbi back in action. Her reluctance to fight seemed a little odd. She’d been training and pushing herself through her rehabilitation to be ready for the field. Maybe it was a different story once she was actually out there. Barging in and attacking Bobbi was random and her reasoning behind it just as so.
There is a LOT going on in this episode, and luckily, this season has learned a lot from its previous seasons’ failing and finds something constructive for each squad of the crew to do.
