Jorginho’s agent coy on midfielder’s move

Jorginho’s agent has played down reports the Napoli midfielder has been watched by Arsenal amid reports he could move to the Emirates in January.

A recent report claimed that Arsenal scouted the 23-year-old during Napoli’s 0-0 draw with Genoa at the weekend.

Tough-tackling Jorginho would provide competition for Francis Coquelin in the middle of the park and Arsenal have shown an interest.

“One of the head scouts of Arsenal is well-known, so I know that he was in Genoa for the Napoli match”.

“I’m not surprised that the player, especially in light of the change in coach, is doing well now and has important clubs interested in him”, Italian publication Tuttomercato quote him as saying. The priority is getting a call up to the Italy national team, then there’s the January transfer market.

The Gunners are in terrific form at the moment and are tied on points with Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Jorginho, who holds dual Italian and Brazilian citizenship, has missed just one game for Napoli this season, helping the club rise to fourth in the Serie A table.

Per Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Olver), Napoli coud be persuaded into selling Jorginho if Arsenal offered a fee of around £22 million.

Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are expected to return after November’s worldwide break but their problems have given Arsenal issues; with Joel Campbell now the only senior recognised right-winger in the squad. But manager Arsene Wenger may squander his chance if he does not strengthen further in January. There have been whispers of teams circling for Faouzi Ghoulam, Dries Mertens, Kalidou Koulibaly, and even Marek Hamsik over the last month or so, but now we have a specific and worrying rumor that makes too much sense: Arsenal may be coming for Jorginho.
