According to the LA Times, interim head coach Clay Helton has been implementing a few changes for the Men of Troy, starting with player development.

Smith-Schuster broke a bone below his ring finger during the first quarter of USC’s win at California last weekend.

“We’re going to have a surgery later [Monday] afternoon that’s going to speed up his recovery process”, Helton said Monday. Junior De’Quan Hampton, who has five receptions for 84 yards, is listed behind Smith-Schuster on the depth chart.

“One of the things that I’ve always felt like gets lost sometimes is the guys that maybe are redshirting or the guys that you look up and aren’t getting as many reps”, Helton said Tuesday. “It’s been as soon as three days, or it could take longer”. He has 52 catches and eight touchdowns. The Trojans play Arizona on Saturday night and opened as 17-point favorites in the contest.
