Romanian Nightclub Bosses Arrested After Fire Kills 31

The fire at the Colectiv nightclub started on October 30 when fireworks set off inside the club lit insulation foam on a pillar and spread quickly, starting a stampede and trapping numerous roughly 400 people inside.

Preliminary forensic tests show the victims died from inhaling noxious gases.

A handful of specialists have arrived from Israel, Germany and France to help treat the 140 people who were taken to hospital after the fire at Colectiv on Friday night, emergency situations official Raed Arafat said.

The arrested owners of the Colectiv Club are yet to comment on Friday night’s incident, though according to the Associated Press the owners of three other nightclubs in Romania have admitted that they too failed to uphold safety standards in their venues.
