Kapler, Darin Erstad, Dave Roberts, Tim Wallach, Dave Martinez, and Ron Roenicke have all been mentioned as candidates under consideration in Los Angeles, and several of them have already interviewed.

The interview took place on Monday, according to the sources. He played his final three seasons in Detroit, where he had spent the first nine seasons of his major league career.

Gibson managed the Arizona Diamondbacks from 2010 to ’14, and was named the NL’s top manager in 2011 after leading the team to 94 wins. His pinch-hit home run in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Dodgers in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series is considered one of the most memorable moments in baseball. After being fired by the D-backs following the 2014 season, Gibson joined the Detroit Tigers broadcast team. He missed time in the booth after the initial diagnosis of Parkinson’s, for which there is now no cure.

“I have faced many different obstacles in my life, and have always maintained a strong belief that no matter the circumstances, I could overcome those obstacles”, Gibson said in a statement then.

He could not be reached for comment regarding the Dodgers’ position.

Don Mattingly and the Dodgers divorced last month, and according to the story, the club will interview around 10 people for the position.

Roberts has been the bench coach for the San Diego Padres over the past two seasons.

General manager Sandy Alderson confirmed Wednesday that the Mets have granted the Los Angeles Dodgers permission to interview bench coach Bob Geren for their managerial opening. While it looked like the Nationals had one in Bud Black, reports indicate that they extremely lowballed his offer and announced this morning that Dusty Baker will be their manager.
