Home cooking may heal what ails the Mets

“Coming back home is a big thing for us”, said Syndergaard.

Game time for the New York Mets vs. Kansas City Royals World Series Game 3 is scheduled for 8:07 p.m. Eastern Time at Citi Field in Queens, New York City, 5:07 p.m. Pacific. “That’s what they brought me here for, to help win a World Series”.

Game 2 was another story.

Cueto allowed only two hits in the game and he gave the Royals a two game lead in the World Series over the Mets.

So Cueto got those last three outs, the first American League pitcher to complete a World Series game in 24 years. Relative to the rest of baseball, no team has struck out less often than this year’s Royals, beneath the average by more than two and a half standard deviations.

“It’s the World Series”.

“Last thing Eddie told the guys last night when he left is, ‘I’ll see you in New York, ‘” Kansas City manager Ned Yost said before Game 2 Wednesday night.

New York used that sudden power surge in August and September as they steamrolled the Nationals to win the NL East. That power surge got them to the World Series. “He pretty much went out there and put the team on his back”.

“As a hitter it’s all about timing, and he disrupted it tonight for sure”, Mets captain David Wright said after an 0-for-4 night.

Johnson said he will be in New York with friends for Tuesday and Wednesday night games. Escobar is hitting at the top of the Royals lineup despite nobody having a good explanation for why it works. Their style on offense is to be relentless, never give up, and do anything it takes to score. At 66-years of age and stints with three clubs in the major leagues, this is his time to shine and his Mets are ready to make it happen.

Matt Harvey was pedestrian in Game 1 and Jacob deGrom subpar in Game 2.

Alex Rios followed with a single and Escobar fouled off a pair of bunt attempts before driving and 0-2 slider up the middle for a tying single. These pitchers haven’t seen a lineup quite like this all season long, as the Royals have basically no holes at the plate. Whether it’s Eric Hosmer or Alex Gordon or Lorenzo Cain or whoever else, Kansas City is producing and the Mets are in trouble.

This is the most surprising development in this series. Bumgarner and the Giants reliever Jeremy Affeldt did what the Mets best starters could not do in two games thus far- they shutdown the relentless Royals contact hitters.

Before this year, six Series teams had started two pitchers from beyond the USA, STATS said. Of course, the bullpen was also spectacular in that game, pitching so many innings. They had a Hall of Fame catcher, one of greatest first baseman in the history of the game, as it turned out an absolute money closer, and a pitching staff with tons of talent, experience and serious onioins. Cueto was absolutely electric, going the distance, and easily outperforming deGrom. “For him to come out and throw a complete game, and really save those guys, getting them two days off heading to New York, is huge”. Given that and the fact that opposing batters have hit.286/.324/.528 when facing Syndergaard for the third time in a game (including his two postseason starts), Mets manager Terry Collins may need to have a quick hook for his starter when the Royals get a third look at the righty. The Royals’ rotation isn’t almost as deep, but that whole roster looks hungry for the title, so they could surprise everyone and continue to pitch well.

Royals may lead Mets but as World Series history shows never rule anything out
