Samsung Outs Its Latest Ativ Book 9 Laptops
Samsung has updated their line of ATIV notebooks with a couple of hard-hitting devices made with extremely sharp displays. They come in the form of the ATIV Book 9 Pro and the ATIV Book 9 Spin. With a 15.6-inch, 3840 x 2160 touchscreen display and what Samsung is calling “real time HDR enhancements” which sounds like fancy talk for decent brightness and contrast optimization, the ATIV Book 9 Pro may indeed have the best display Samsung has ever put in a laptop. At a $200 price cut, the Spin ditches the 4K screen but sticks with a gentlemanly QHD+ resolution on a smaller 13.3-inch display. You’ll also see the ATIV Book 9 Spin.

At CES 2015, Samsung introduced the ATIV Book 9 laptop, carrying a Core M chip within a super thin, light chassis. On one hand, the 4K display of the Book 9 Pro is hard to pass up, but for a cheaper cost, you’ll get the more flexible and possibly practical Book 9 Spin. It measures 12.39 by 8.69 by 0.59 inches (HWD) and tips the scales at just 2.87 pounds.
Otherwise, the Windows 10 laptop has a 2.6Ghz Intel Core i7 Skylake processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics card – which will hopefully allow for a few serious gaming, although the need to push out 4K graphics should add a few stress on the card. The Pro model is the only one to come with discreet graphics, though.
The Book 9 Spin’s screen can be positioned as a desk picture frame or twisted around and folded back over itself as shown below, nearly resembling a tablet.
The Pro works with a quad speaker system and the following set of ports: I/O button, SD card reader, HP/mic, 4K HDMI output, 3x USB 3.0 Type A (USB-A), 1x USB 3.1 Type C (USB-C). You’ll also receive two 2W speakers, three USB 3.0 ports, and a standard HDMI port. Don’t go looking for a USB-C port, because you won’t find one here. The price of Ativ Book 9 Pro starts at $1,599 for its base configuration, while the Ativ Book 9 Spin is priced at $1,399.
