The investigation is continuing, but no charges have been filed against anyone else involved, Somers said.

Video showed Stone and others squared off against several other individuals.

Somers said the fight began when one group of people became angry that another group had recorded them with a smartphone.

Tran has an affiliation with a gang, has a criminal history and has a prior felony, Somers said. The argument was over one of Tran’s friends allegedly recording the women in Stone’s group with a cell phone outside a nightclub, according to police. He was released after undergoing surgery at UC Davis Medical Center.

In August, Stone and his childhood friends, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler, tackled a gunman with an AK-47 aboard a high-speed train traveling from Amsterdam to Paris. They and a British businessman hogtied the gunman, and Stone, trained as a paramedic, staunched the flow of blood from the neck of an injured passenger.

Officers arrested James Tran, 28, of Sacramento around 7 a.m. Wednesday during a traffic stop near Highway 99 and Bond Road. An Air Force spokesman says Stone, who helped subdue an attacker on a Paris-bound train in August, is in stable condition after being stabbed in California.

Stone is assigned to Travis Air Force Base.

Somers said it does not appear Tran or anyone in his group knew of Stone’s public stature.

Authorities have said the fight was not related to Mr Stone’s role in the train incident in which the Americans took down a man armed with a box-cutter, a pistol and an AK-47 assault rifle.
