Although Apple has finally expanded users’ food options with the taco emoji, when it comes to hairstyles, there is only one straight, sleek look.

What’s in a hairstyle?

“Knowing how prevalent and widely used emojis have become, it was saddening to us there remained no reflection of curly hair in the official keyboard, even after recent updates”, Rob Candelino, Dove VP of marketing, tells Mashable.

The beauty brand teamed up with a developing company to launch curly-haired emojis.

New emojis represent women with curly hair.

“Emojis are a language of pictures, so when people use that language, they want a symbol that offers them the choice of their individual image, style, or personality”, explains Sali Tagliamonte, Dove Language Expert. They’re not yet part of the official Unicode keyboard, but you can download them for free in the App Store and Google Play. “So emojis that are reflective of a person’s identity are really important to them, just as our language is emblematic of who we are”.

The Dove Love Your Curls Emoji Keyboard, developed in partnership with Snaps, will include over 131 curly emoji variations featuring an array of skin tones and hair colors so you can spread your curly hair love in many ways. Plus, Dove is also partnering with Twitter, so every time you use the hashtag #LoveYourCurls, a curly girl appears.

“One in three women in the United States have curly or wavy hair, yet there are zero images of these women today in the increasingly common language of emojis”, continues the Unilever statement.
