The management and staff of First Consultant Medical Centre (FCMC) were all in a joyful mood on Wednesday as an official of the hospital and an Ebola survivor, Dr. Ada Igonoh, successfully gave birth to a baby girl in the United States.

The baby girl is said to weigh nine pounds, one ounce and was born at the Greater El-Monte Community Hospital, California, United States of America on Tuesday, reports R&B PR, a foremost Public Relations out in Lagos, Nigeria.
FCMC, in a statement on Tuesday, noted that Igonoh was under medical surveillance during her pregnancy and delivery to ensure that her child was born free of the viral infection.
He baby was certified Ebola-free upon delivery.
Dr Igonoh was working at the First Consultant Medical Centre (FCMC) in Obalende, Lagos when Nigeria’s index patient, Liberian Patrick Sawyer was admitted at the facility.
The hospital’s CMD added that Dr. Stella Kpaduwa, a paediatrician, attended to the baby.
“Everything about Dr. Igonoh has been divine because she survived the deadly virus and started taking care of other colleagues and also got pregnant and now gave birth. Once they arrive, there will be celebration”, Dr. Ohiaeri said. “Last year we were visited with the deadly disease, one year later, by the grace of God we were saved from national calamity and we have every reason to celebrate”. When you get Ebola, it is hard to get pregnant.
“It is a feat for Nigeria as a nation that Ada was delivered by Nigerian-Americans”. If you are pregnant, it is hard to carry and hard to deliver.
“Ada and her husband have made us proud”.

The World Health Organization declared Nigeria Ebola-free in October 2014 after seven deaths from 19 confirmed cases. According to him, “last year was a hard one but we came through it and this is another year and we have something to thank God for. The press also helped with information and managing everything that happened”, he said.
