Both directions were closed this morning after a crash on the westbound span near the Louisiana/Mississippi state line.
Officials say one person died when an 18-wheeler drove through the bridge walls then fell into the Pearl River. Rescue divers continue to search for the driver in the 18-wheeler that went into the water, according to state police.
LSP spokesman Dustin Dwight said the pickup truck attempted to illegally pass Chapple’s rig using the right shoulder.
Authorities sent a dive team into the water to recover his body. If you have any information about the accident, call Louisiana State Police at 985-893-6250.
The three vehicle crash happened near the Mississippi/Louisiana state line late Tuesday night on I-10. Eastbound drivers should find an alternate route into Mississippi until the scene is cleared, which is expected to be several more hours, according to MDOT in a media update issued at 5 a.m.
