Carson surges to fore in US Republican race

The latest Quinnipiac University National poll shows the retired pediatric neurosurgeon with a 10-point lead over the Democratic presidential candidate, 50 to 40 percent. In this sector, Carson has the highest favourability score of 47 percent if pitted against Clinton, who registers a 37 percent score.

Carson had the support of 29 percent of Republican presidential primary voters in the survey, while Trump had 23 percent.

The other head-to-heads are closer: Clinton trails Rubio, 46% to 41%, but tops Trump 46% to 43%, Cruz (46% to 43%) and Christie (46% to 41%).

Marco Rubio is responding to attacks from Donald Trump regarding the reported mismanagement of his finances – sort of.

The focus on economy is a win for Trump who garners a 42% rating from primary voters who say he is the most qualified to handle the economy.

Nine percent of voters remain undecided, according to the poll of 502 registered Republicans, with a margin of error of 4.4 percent. Carson placed second with 18 percent.
