Pirates utility man Josh Harrison will be out six weeks with an injured thumb he suffered in Sunday’s 5-3 win against the Indians. While the Pirates are waiting for Harrison to be examined by a hand specialist, the fear is their third baseman and leadoff hitter has a torn ligament that will need surgery and sideline him until at least late August.
In 75 games for the Pirates this season, Harrison is batting.279, with a. 313 on base percentage, four home runs, 20 doubles and 22 RBIs.
Newly claimed Travis Ishikawa took Harrison’s place on the 25-man roster.
“My hands got stuck in the dirt, got cut up a little bit”, Harrison said.
