Bulls Sign Aaron Brooks to one-year Deal – Today’s Fastbreak

The Chicago Bulls signed first-round draft pick Bobby Portis and reached agreement with guard Aaron Brooks on a one-year contract to return next season, according to reports Tuesday.

The contract will be finalized when the league moratorium on player signings lifts Thursday. Portis, the reigning SEC Player of the Year, averaged 17.5 points and 8.9 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Arkansas, with the Bulls nabbing him at No. 22 in last month’s National Basteball Association Draft.

During the regular season, Brooks, 30, joined the long list of reserve scoring spark plugs that management has signed over the last few years. If Derrick Rose can continue his rise back to top form, and if he and Butler can continue to play together and develop great chemistry, they will be one of the best backcourts in the National Basteball Association for years to come.

The Chicago Bulls say guard Kirk Hinrich has exercised his player option and will return next season.

The Bulls play the first of at least five games on Saturday against the Timberwolves in Las Vegas.

The team may want some depth behind Butler and also some extra depth up front if they decide to move Gibson. He also previously worked with Boylen with the Pacers and at the University of Utah.

The reception Hoiberg received before the game and throughout town has been mostly positive, but the rookie coach knows that it’s time to get to work.
