BMW 3 Series vs Mercedes Benz C-Class: Not Backing Down
We know this because we now have our first spy shots of a prototype for the Mercedes-AMG version, which will be known as a C63 Cabriolet. The exterior is instantly recognizable as Benz’s biggest, and the most notable interior update is the addition of a tablet-style display screen borrowed from other Mercedes models that, at a guess (because Benz doesn’t explicitly say so), is larger than last year’s boxed-in screen. In fact, the automaker describes the GLS as the “S-Class among SUVs”.

As we expected, the design of the GLS isn’t massively different to the GL.
Later investigations found similar issues with six-cylinder engines and seven-speed transmissions, a combination which was offered in the USA market. In addition, the GLS also gets the optional LED Intelligent Light System.
Just like the coupe, power will come from a V8 twin-turbo 4.0-liter engine which will be available in two states of tune: 476 PS (349 kW) and 650 Nm (479 lb-ft) in the base model and 510 PS (375 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) in the hotter S model. And at the top of the range is the GLS63, whose twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8 generous a heady 577 hp and 561 lb-ft.
“Compared with its predecessor, the new generation features improved efficiency, additional Dynamic Select transmission modes, improved air suspension system, nine-speed 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, state-of-the-art assistance systems and the latest generation of Mercedes-Benz telematics which includes Internet access and remote-start capability”, Mercedes-Benz said in a statement. There is a new instrument cluster, new 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a modified center console with touchpad.
