Keith Thurman defends title against Luis Collazo

It’s unclear why the World Boxing Association even sanctioned the Thurman-Collazo fight because Collazo isn’t ranked in the top 15 by any of the sanctioning bodies and he was recently beaten badly by Amir Khan.

But Thurman, the unbeaten welterweight titlist, has two somewhat competing points he wants fans and experts alike to know regarding his candidacy as a Mayweather opponent: Not only is he ready for the fight any time, he’s not going to let the success of his career be dictated by whether he gets that chance.

When asked by fighthub.tv what he’d say to Floyd if he saw him, Thurman said: “Do you want to fight?”

Thurman (25-0, 21 by KO) is a heavy favourite over the former world champion Collazo (36-6, 19 KOs) which will be held at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida. More than just names, those fighters represent talent and pedigree far greater than what Thurman has faced as a whole to date.

“My career may consist of a Floyd Mayweather fight or it may not”. He’s at what looks to be his final shot at a significant fight and he’s hoping that a win over Keith “One Time” Thurman is his golden ticket to the litany of lucrative fights available at 147lbs.

“No matter what happens I’ll have my own career. We are athletes, we are entertainers, thus we are performers”. This is a stay-busy fight for Thurman, but it might not be an easy one. I’ve always looked forward to Collazo bouts because the man brings his heart and soul to each and every fight, and he leaves it all inside the ring once the bell tolls.

Would the pound-for-pound king have the same incentive to challenge himself against a prime Thurman, who possesses likely the division’s most dangerous knockout punch? “Boxing is a sport, but it’s also a business”. The logical side of me is telling me to not bet this fight for either side; too much to put down to win anything on Thurman, and I’d be pissing away money that I laid down on Collazo. If Thurman ever wants to fight stars like Mayweather, then he’s going to need to accept the offer of fighting Spence so that Mayweather can see for himself whether he’s someone he would like to fight.

Thurman had in April accused Khan of avoiding a fight against him because the Brit apparently doesn’t like “laying on canvas”, Dog House Boxing reported.
