Detroit Lions star linebacker DeAndre Levy was placed on injured reserve Wednesday and will miss the rest of the 2015 season due to a lingering hip injury.

Getting Levy back for any sort of time this season would have been a bonus-or at least would have salvaged a few collective morale.
Levy underwent surgery to fix the hip on October 14. He made his 2015 debut against the Arizona Cardinals, where he re-aggravated the injury. But he left that game in the first half after aggravating the injury. His contract was supposed to expire at the end of this season, but the team agreed to a four-year extension with him in August, avoiding the same scenario they’d found themselves in with Suh.

The Lions announced Wednesday that they’d put Levy on IR and signed fellow linebacker James-Michael Johnson. The team will continue to rely on the efforts of linebacker Josh Bynes, who has been a serviceable replacement for Levy all season. With the Lions in their bye week at 1-7, it makes no sense to try to bring Levy back this season. His career totals include 88 tackles (64 solo), one sack and two forced fumbles in 45 career games.
