First flu case reported in Waterloo Region for 2015/2016 flu season
While it is not possible to predict what this year’s flu season will be like, one fact that is certain is that the flu, or influenza, is contagious. The state only data only on Californians under 65, so the total flu mortality numbers are much greater, officials say.

A new law will go into effect next year requiring day care workers to get the flu shot.
Ms Ley said the Government works closely with vaccine producers to ensure their product meets the constantly-changing protection needs. It is particularly important for people at increased risk of complications from the flu.
Last year, influenza killed one person and hospitalized dozens more in the region. “By getting vaccinated, you can keep yourself healthy and stop the virus from spreading to others”.
“Your expertise is in your business; our expertise is helping provide resources and educational materials about the value of vaccines – specifically this time of year, flu vaccines”, Parker said.
It is possible, according to specialists, to become infected with the virus despite vaccination, depending on whether the strain on the virus which you are exposed to is covered by the vaccine you have taken or not. For more information about the flu, visit the California Department of Public Health’s influenza Web page.
State public health officials states that there were 78 flu-related deaths confirmed amid people under 65 years old during the 2014-15 influenza season.
Although influenza is a preventable illness, it can be very unsafe to a few people.
For the small percentage of the population who do not qualify for the publicly-funded vaccine, it can be purchased for around $20-25 at a pharmacy.
Common symptoms of the flu include fever, chills, cough, sore throat, muscle aches and fatigue.
There will also be a vaccine specifically for children under three. People who do not intend to get a shot, however, tend to doubt the effectiveness of flu shots.
