Jeremy Pruitt’s Future With Program in Doubt

Georgia coach Mark Richt’s reportedly dysfunctional relationship with second-year defensive coordinator Jeremy Pruitt isn’t the only sign of a possible coaching change at yet another major college program.

The main question is will Richt be able to keep his job after this season?

Prior to Richt’s tweet, Georgia sports information director Claude Felton, when contacted via email about the rumor, wrote he’s “not heard anything about that and not aware of any announcements, etc. coming”. And we’re not talking about just the quarterback position or the offensive line.

Georgia’s defense under Pruitt has slowly gotten better the past two seasons. Further complicating matters is the fact that Richt has never before willingly entertained the idea of walking away and that Georgia could potentially bring in the nation’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class next year.

In the interview, Tarkenton was also critical of coach Jeremy Pruitt, calling him “very loud” and suggesting he’s “taken advantage of things over there”. Hopefully the staff will regroup for the final four games of the season and likely bowl game.

Multiple people told USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity that McGarity has a very high opinion of Mississippi State’s Dan Mullen from their time together at Florida.

The 27-3 loss against the Gators in Jacksonville on Saturday eliminated Georgia from contention for a SEC East championship.

A fresh start at his alma mater might look pretty good to Richt right about now, though a strong finish against Kentucky, Auburn, Georgia Southern and Georgia Tech could still get the Bulldogs to 9-3 and that might just settle things down again.

The next few weeks, and maybe even days, promise to be intense around Athens and will determine the course of potentially the next decade of Georgia football.
