Sir Elton John wants to meet Russian president
John is an outspoken proponent of gay rights around the world and also announced this week a partnership with the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief aimed at helping increase access to medication for people with HIV and AIDS in countries that can be hostile to LGBT individuals.

Furnish said Britain could use its influence to “push” Commonwealth countries on LGBTI rights.
“If the worst comes to the worst, one has to, yeah (I will approach her).
In the beginning, Yakovenko had certain problems to explain to the musician that he was really the Russian ambassador and that the real president of Russia wanted to talk to him”, Peskov said adding the ambassador’s diplomatic skills helped him convincing Elton John.
“These laws can be changed very easily by the Queen saying, “change the law”.
‘These are old laws from the British Commonwealth, I mean these can be changed. “And so the Queen could do that with one wave of her hand”, he said. “He was very affable, he was very apologetic, he was very honest”.
“People are afraid for their lives, they’re afraid to get tested, they’re afraid to say they’re gay. Local politicians who continue to block equality must wake up and realise the damage they’re causing to gay people in Northern Ireland, as well as to our global reputation”. Shortly after, Elton John said in an Instagram post that the Russian president had called him.
He said: “I will go to Moscow and I will meet him. I’m not going to go straight in there and go, ‘come on, you’ve got to do this, you’ve got to do that.’ This is the starting of a dialogue and you don’t get anywhere without a dialogue”.

“Putin called and said, ‘I know you were called by pranksters; don’t get offended by those guys, they are harmless, though this certainly does not justify their actions, ‘” Peskov said then, according to Sputnik.
