Klopp rules out Gerrard Reds return

With Gerrard set to be off until March given the MLS schedule, he appears headed back to his old stomping grounds after reported talks with new Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

A big win at home against Liverpool may turn the tide for the Russian outfit and a win will see them leapfrog the English squad in the standings of the Europa League.

The Reds desperately need a win, and Klopp will select a near full strength side as he attempts to keep the European dream alive.

Klopp on Wednesday said: “I spoke with Stevie”. But break time I told him that of course you can come whenever you want, you can train with us, do whatever is good for you.

“We are talking about a few training sessions”.

“He didn’t ask [about playing] so I don’t have to think about it”.

“I don’t believe it is at all accurate”. We will find for sure something for Stevie when he comes back and whatever he wants to do, we will help him, but not at this moment – we are in the middle of the Premier League season.

However, the former Dortmund coach hasn’t ruled out on a possible chance of signing players on January and he had insisted that he had “the first word and the last word” on transfers.

Rubin Kazan had no answer and offered little going forward throughout the match, allowing Liverpool to claim a comfortable 1-0 win which means if they beat Bordeaux in their next group stage match they will qualify.

“At that point I’ll become more involved and start talking to clubs, agents, players on a negotiations basis and then the manager will choose”.

Klopp’s reign at Liverpool started in subdued fashion, with the German gaffer overseeing three draws in his first three games in the job. But we are not here to visit Kazan.

Klopp hints that he will – as expected – make chamges from the side that defeated Chelsea on Saturday.

The Reds head into the game sitting second in Group A after drawing each of their opening three games – including a 1-1 stalemate with tonight’s opposition in the reverse fixture at Anfield two weeks ago.

“We knew we had to change the way we played and be a lot better to stop creating opportunities for them to counter attack on us”.
