Noomi Rapace in talks to play Amy Winehouse in biopic

Screen Daily reports that the biopic is now called Amy Winehouse, but this is only a working title so it might get changed. She’s no stranger to the music scene though. Winehouse’s success is credited for helping open the door to other soulful artists such as Adele. After her death, Back to Black continued to sell and has since become the U.K.’s second best selling album of the 21st century with over 20 million copies sold to date.

Amy Winehouse’s life was told with the riveting documentary Amy earlier this year and now, it’s coming to the big screen again in an up-and-coming biopic.

Winehouse, a three time Grammy award victor and one of the most lauded singers of her generation, tragically passed away in 2011, aged just 27, after letting her demons overcome her. Whether the new film will focus on her troubled latter days is not yet known but presumably a heavy emphasis will be placed on her personal life issues. A24 released the movie domestically in July. First of all, Mitch Winehouse’s project is being made out of spite, nearly like a political ad for himself to fight against his critics. Moreover, Rapace is a talented actress so one imagine she’s a fine choice to take on the hard role-though here’s hoping the film lands those music rights, or else the biopic will feel incomplete. She is also set to star opposite Christian Bale, who will play Enzo Ferrari of Ferrari cars in a movie by Michael Mann.
