Earlier Extremist Hindu party Shiv Sena threatened to cancel Ghulam Ali’s concert in New Delhi, a deed in which the extremist party suceeded as the authorities caved in later. But after speaking to a news channel, Ali confirmed that he will not make an appearance at any concert in India, till the time the political conflict around his presence in the country calms down. The 74-year-old singer’s son Aamir said his father did not want to perform after what happened in Mumbai. A concert was also organized on November 8th but the singer felt humiliated and cancelled all his shows.
However, the show in Mumbai was called off after far-right religonal party Shiv Sena protested against his show. “We have asked the event managers to get an official confirmation of the same”.
Post this incident, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal Chief Minister invited Ghulam Ali to perform in their states. “I’m a singer, I will talk about music, not politics”.
Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also made it clear that there will be high security to the singer and he will not face any problem to perform in Mumbai, but however, the singer made a decision by then.
Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit, president of Indian Films & Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA), welcomed Ghulam Ali’s decision. However, the Delhi government had said that it would ensure that the concert takes place with additional security.
